Tarpon Lodge in Pineland, Florida - Looking Back in Time on Pine Island

The Pine Island is located west of Cape Coral. Besides the fishing excellent, talented artists and archaeological sites ... Miss, there are some absolutely unique "Old Florida" one should not live. Among them is the Tarpon Lodge Sportsman Inn, Restaurant, and is located on the north-west of Iceland in Pineland Pine Bar

Cape Coral, the trip to Pineland is charming and relaxing. A shot straight down Pine Road Iceland takes me past dense native vegetation.Fischer shoulders with photographers and artists come and eco-tourists, among the psychedelic colors of Matlacha. Then it is a quick and quiet journey through the strange landscape of the Pine Little Iceland heavily restored wetland area.

The four-way stop at the center of Pine Island, I turn right on Stringfellow Road. Great inputs up to half built subdivisions commitment over the landscaped area, threatening the future of long-lasting vegetable vendors on the street and the lush, desolate labyrinths of palm nurseries. Push Away for bigger, better, faster, more visible, even here.

A fish symbol emblazoned on the corner of a side street pointing the way to the Tarpon Lodge. Piles of shells Magnificent increase the land on the right side of the road. Sparkling Pine-Iceland-Sund comes soon in sight on the left side. Not far away is opposite the majestic Tarpon Lodge Sportsman Inn and Restaurant. It 'right across the street from the Calusa Heritage Trail andpractically next to the home page of the New York Times best-selling book, Randy Wayne White.

The main building was originally built in 1926 by the Wilson family. Was then operated in possession of IB and Mary Hunt Jones as the Pine-Aire Lodge. In 1986, another dormitory building of the former Pine-Aire Lodge property was added. For the next ten years, the company as "The Cloisters, a rehabilitation center for drug and alcohol known. It was not until 2000, when Robert and PhyllisWells (also the restaurant at Cabbage Key) complex purchased. They have renovated the main building and dormitory into a restaurant and hotel ... Today Tarpon Lodge. It opened in June 2001. When Hurricane Charley made landfall on August 13, 2004 Pine Island, has seriously damaged the roof of the main building, flooding the main dining room. Most of the windows were smashed and all the docks were destroyed. After the storm, he came to work, and became the propertyrestored. The restaurant, opened December 15, 2004. The inn reopened in the New Year holiday concert, and once hosted a family party for former President Jimmy Carter and his family.

Royal palms and banana leaves shadow across the street. Red flowers and vivid green leaves in the soft breeze, the night when I go to them on their way to check-in in a room. A trip short and friendly hospitality are immediately offered by the friendly woman behind the desk. MyTarpon Lodge orientation, is out to collect her car and her things ... We are officially on the Island of Time.

Pineland is relaxed as it gets. This is not dazzling neon Florida. This is not sweaty South Beach, or send Worth Ave, or in bad taste Panama City, Orlando, or plastic. Sanibel and Captiva look too crowded and hectic than Pineland. People who visit Tarpon Lodge does not end here on accident ... Usually they come here in search of one of the few things: fishing,History, nature, romance, or loneliness. If they are lucky, they get a mixture of all.

There are different types of rooms to Tarpon Lodge, but space is limited ... especially in tourism and seasonal Tarpon. The small number of rooms available, adds the charm of the cottage, and allows employees to its goal of hands-on, personalized service for every guest has reached the host.

1926 The historic building has nine rooms. Although this building has been renovatedseveral times, no one would say. Many of the old materials are still available. Most rooms are also the original wood floors. Some of the rooms in the main building are viewed with water views. All have easy access to the restaurant and lounge. Another big advantage is that these rooms offer the opportunity to be a distinctive part of the history of Pino Iceland overnight in one of the oldest buildings on the island.

There is a cottage and a restored 1926Dock. Both have kitchenettes, verandahs and magnificent views of the water. These options are perfect for planning longer stays.

Our room is the Island House, a building stilt Italy behind the main building. There are twelve rooms in this building. Six of them have a vision of water. All water view rooms on the house on the island have a small balcony to the west, so that a one-of-a-kind perspective of mind-blowing, Pine-Iceland sunsets Sound. We are lucky enough to have captured one ofRooms overlooking the water, even if our visit is halfway through the season Tarpon.

The room contained a comfortable bed, a lamp, a wardrobe with a small television and private bathroom. The most important feature is the balcony overlooking the pool, the tropical-manicured grounds and Pine-Iceland-Sund. There is no telephone in the room. There is wireless internet connection, either. These two can have in the main building ... But I have come here to disconnect from the bonds electronicbinds me everywhere.

Once everything is dragged from the car and you're done, it was the balcony with a chilled bottle of red wine and two glasses. A pair of wicker chairs and a table waiting for us, together with all the glory of pristine southwest Florida.

A constant, cool breeze caresses our skin and hang out with her hair. Evolution of patterns of light and cloud shadows mingle on the lawns running toward the water. A misguided few SeagrapeLeaves blowing across the lawn. Mate Love Bugs in the air. A green anole dewlap extends colorful and bob up and down. Our overall view is so peaceful and idyllic paradise ... Palm trees, sky watercolor large and the magnitude of the Pine-Iceland-Sund.

The horizon is firm and not celebrated islands and keys taken. Wood-Key. Black Key. Of the island. Inaccessible by car on foot or by car, play this tacit-places of the imagination. Who owns it? Someone living?Thoughts wander to the ancient Calusa heritage of this area, filling the void with the past in these islands and colored planes. Shell Mounds. Unfound Indian art. Holy graves. Unspeakable secrets.

The surface of the water birds, including diving in search of fish. In order to dismantle the fish, the area 's air, jumped to detect errors. Small boats leave the border areas, touching the wrinkled surface of Pine Island Sound, sometimes docking at the Tarpon Lodge, sometimes for the titlePineland Marina conveniently located nearby.

A pair excited in the early forties, on a balcony there are few rooms. You are on vacation, and they tested only in Tarpon Lodge. In a few minutes down the pool in bathing suits that are all big smiles. This is the place they have always tried to welcome you, big black X marking each day on their calendar, a countdown dying. Now I'm finally here and dip them into the experience ofSouthwest Florida just dip in the pool. This is all you need. A commitment to relax.

I like to see them look big eyes see the news that surrounds them. With the curiosity of children who have developed from the womb of his normal life in the wonder of a place so different. The heads rotate in wide arcs, where the landscape itself in. If you looked at the sky in appreciation of you know, we began to relax. Wild Eyes contacttropical moments, novels, writing to memory. Among playful splash in the pool again in a way that only a change of scenery can afford.

The charm of the landscape is strong. It was not long before we are by our chairs and the exploration of the reasons Tarpon Lodge on foot. We walk among the flowers and leaves, low-hanging leaves and flowers tickle our exposed skin. The refreshing scent of salt water is ubiquitous, we aromatherapy massage. The material in a hammock in the shade, hungerGrip in the corners, as we have our bodies sway gently back and forth. So that's an appointment with the Virgin-white pavilion. We fled from the sun long fronded coconut palms. Look to their cluster of tropical fruit and perform hands on the stone ridges of their tribe. Sitting outside on the pier, is the language of the water lapping on wood, the birds singing songs suggestive of coupling and fish splashing in despair ... all under the fragments of Egyptian cotton sheets of clouds. Lesshalf an hour we intimate with nature.

The Tarpon Lodge dining room and lounge, is what you are or how you want to be. This is an athlete Inn in Pine Island. This is a colorful melting pot of a deal, sometimes. It 'a place where millionaires bump boat enthusiasts to young couples looking for romance. Vegan eco-activists, you can dine in the same room as fishermen crisp and professors archeology. Different types of clothing and language are the background of socialScene at the Tarpon Lodge. Some of the guests want to come to good conversation, others want to be left alone with his books and thoughts.

The service staff adds its own tone for the vibrant, lively mix of the sounds of different places, have ventured into their path from here until the end notes of high quality expected of the management service are available to them. For a place off the beaten track, and on an island known for the carefree nature of the service staff, General ManagerRob Wells III has a staff that can be truly proud accumulated. In all interactions, our needs have been established and addressed as such, usually with an accuracy hectic.

The lounge at the Tarpon Lodge is an old New England pub, remembers the Revolutionary War days. Beautiful dark wood floors lead in front of a cavernous bar with fireplace brick primitive. Tasteful tall vases filled with sand beach and lightning whelk shells serve as candle holders for large, whiteCandles gleaming dark each evening. Trophy fish mounted on the wall, along with the ugly saw a small tooth sawfish () is now a protected species in danger of extinction. Simple images of the old fishing village of conquests abound. Sack-back Windsor chairs, tables and line of several personalities from around the Pine Iceland come to indulge in libations and great food.

Three men, unshaven, fresh from a day in water, the amount of small bars trade stories emphatic fish. A coupleclose Bokeelia, food from the room. Across the room to lead them in conversation, my wife ... life on the island, travel to Hong Kong and Dubai, the presidential race. Among the meanderings of a lively discussion, the wife and I have a Caribbean shrimp, mushrooms and spinach dip appetizer. Monterey Jack cheese, coated and served with seasoned croutons, the subtle taste of curry dip was a pleasant surprise.

The hostess was lovely presents and explainsas the head of the Tarpon Lodge, Jethro Joseph, is from Grand Cayman. Southwest Florida loves fresh ingredients with Caribbean spices when creating its unique menu items. The end result is one of the most innovative food in the region. Classical and traditional southern Florida gave an update shares menu space with freshly caught delicacies, and exotic aromas show from the Cayman Islands are in surprising and unexpected places.

The Tarpon Lodge Restaurant is consistently ratedvisiting four-star restaurants. Live music, easy listening variety, is a couple of times a week. This is an exquisitely appointed dining indoors, but the tables that you want is here on the covered terrace overlooking the dining postcard perfect sunset at Pine Island Sound.

The hostess places to see us at a corner table on the terrace with clear water. Live musical guests this evening are David Trio Sarchet. Their mix of classic and modern jazzComponents of the mix with the fresh air of Florida and provides the perfect backdrop for a magical atmospheric dining experience.

In a few moments, offering our professional services right server for the bottle of wine which we chose from the limited list and wine at affordable prices. Steele Pinot Noir glasses are raised for a toast in the morning light. Crystal bells, and we begin our meal enjoyable.

Salads, larger than life, appears before us. My wife goes with a green salad made with baby spinach leavesSpinach and mushrooms seasoned with roasted peppers, finished with a warm bacon vinaigrette sweet. Temperature variations plays with our senses. Fresh spinach, fresh clashes with the warm bacon dressing ... absolutely breathtaking.

Mine is a heart of palm salad in Asia. HOT snowpeas hearts of palm and sweet with mixed greens and crispy fried wonton strips, tossed a particularly crunchy texture to salads to add. This can be easily crushed with an Asian vinaigretteSesame seeds and ginger tones. Magnificent.

My wife is alive Pine Island Sound Crab Cakes certainly up to the mouth-to-mouth legendary status they have acquired over the past years. Jumbo lump crab meat, combined with a unique blend of spices Chef Jethro Joseph, formed two gigantic crab cakes and sauteed until done. You are wise with a garlic aioli which complements the flavors of the crab cake paired well. This is Southwest Florida food done well.

My choice is aCFSP cool special pursue this difficult but oh-so-worth-it when they are ... Sautéed local Tripletail. I was so happy to hear our server the bowl at the beginning of our meal minutes. Tripletail is something like a top-secret Fisherman's here in South Florida ... tender, flaky, pearly flesh with a mild, meaty taste of easy one to himself. The Tarpon Lodge is one of the few restaurants that offers these fish regularly. If you have ever seenoffer - to achieve, you will not be disappointed.

Chief Joseph was the only thing right again with the Tripletail ... only a mild roasting, season with salt and pepper. What is all the calls. This is a fish, not the need to hide in sauces. It's best enjoyed outdoors, on their merits, minimalist and clean .... and enjoy I did!

Somewhere along the line the sun sinks behind the horizon and is sprinkled with pastel colors exploded in the sky. Long shadows fall under the palms and the playfulJazz music too vague in the darkness of 'night air along the coast. One after another, leaving the other guests of the screened patio, we head for the last two people there, our only business, these are just a few sips of red wine and the remains of a decadent chocolate dessert. Iceland-induced bliss.

Resume in the room, my wife a long hot shower. I decide to wait for them on the balcony. Night is in full bloom, and a wall illuminated by spotlights shining from the ground the foundations of several PalmThe trees and the pavilion. The pool is always closed on or against the darkness. Is there anything more beautiful than the computer-blue glow of a swimming pool at night?

Within seconds, I removed my boxers and jogging along the corridor Iceland House. I climb the stairs and slid down on the crowd packed into the gate around the pool. I look around nervously, but no one is watching. I break the rules neon hotel in fresh water from a swimming pool closed for theNight.

My environment is alive like a dream pleasant and otherworldly. Majestic palms show in dark silhouette against the night sky at high tide. The tropical air cooled dramatically. A sweet scent of chlorine from the water, then disappears every time the wind gathers once again the pure air. Fresh air. Pine-Aire.

In the distance, dancing purple and white power in the form of lightning in silence. Well, white Christmas lights to guide the extentHistoric Inn, distributed along the entire length of the roof. Haze dark blue half-watching screens from the windows of the smoking room at night, where the adventure-weary travelers drift to dreams.

The light reflecting pool to create sweet and flashes in my skin into strips and confused. The only noise is the desert island of palm fronds rustling in the wind and the hum of an invisible electric ceiling fan improperly balanced on the verandah 's islandHome.

I just back and let the water support me. Weight, I float on the surface, with eyes turned skyward. The stars shine above with an intensity and brightness I have never seen before, hovering giant fireballs observed in the sky, swim in this pool.

I see the sky and look back in time to witness the ancient Light finish his incredibly long journey to Earth. I see the light of the stars in the evening today began its long journey before the Tarpon Lodge there. Prior to the cloister. Before the Pine-Aire Lodge. Before the Wilson family removed this land and this house built. I see the light of the stars of today in the evening occurred when the Calusa Indians ruled this land, cast as the only other light caused by fire, and the stars were looked for guidance and miracles.

Tonight I find myself in an old place that gave the old light, as the ancients saw .... It is so quiet, it's almost as if I were the last person on earth.

Then the noise of a sliding door breakssilence, and I see the scenic shadow of my dear wife on the balcony, and waited patiently for me again and again to the room.
